Paseo Tranquillo

At the heart of this project is Akash, an elephant sculpture created by artisans in the Nilgiri Hills of India, where people and elephants live in respectful coexistence. Akash traveled to California with The Great Elephant Migration, a public art initiative that supports coexistence and habitat conservation efforts around the world. Together with the clients, we imagined a front yard landscape that felt like a natural habitat for Akash. A dry creek and xeriscape planting approach shaped the design, giving the space a grounded sense of place. Once complete, the yard quickly became a neighborhood favorite, with visitors often stopping by to see Akash.
